Grade VII turned out to be a turning point of my life! A below average student, with negligible knowledge of English language, became a fan of an English teacher and that’s how the journey began!
I slogged myself day and night in order to improve my English language skills knowing that the only way to approach her is by being a good student!
(An exclusive blog on how I improved my Language skills- Coming soonJ ).
Thanks to the Almighty above, she noticed my hard work and we started talking to each other. With the passage of time, she became my “guru” guiding me in every way possible.
To express my gratitude towards her, I wrote a free verse and shared it with my friends. My friends really liked it and suggested me to send it for publishing… An under-confident student that I was, I shrugged off the idea completely! After a few days, due to persistent ‘pressure’ from my friends, I sent it just to close up this matter with my friends!
Surprisingly, it got published in the student edition of a leading newspaper! The attention that I received from my headmistress, my teachers and my classmates simply ‘delighted’ me and encouraged me to write more! I wrote another piece, sent it and that got published too! Then I sent another and another and another…..
The regular publishing of poems/articles made me a ‘popular’ student of my school. It also brought some felicitations and awards my way from the newspaper authorities as well as from my school! Looking back, I ‘savoured’ my journey from a below average student to a ‘popular’ student
Phase II
BUT! It all came to an end when I completed schooling because student edition used to publish write-ups of school students only! New environment of college, where I was ‘no one’ hit me badly. After going through ‘identity crisis’ for a few months, I started writing shayari which some teachers/students of my college liked and I started comparing some functions of my college in shayarana andaaz. I became known in college, not as ‘well known’ as I was in school. But my School ‘English teacher’ always motivated me.
While I was pursuing Bachelors in education, one of my acquaintances asked me if I was interested in working as a translator, as one of her relative wanted some text to be translated from Hindi to English! Another asked me to write some promotional creative SMSs for her relative… Yet another asked me if I was interested in writing science chapters for her friend who is working as an editor for a publishing house! My ‘English Teacher’ asked me if I would write contents for her friend’s website!
Feeling a little hesitant and apprehensive in the beginning, I told all of them that I would give their work a try! I tried and most of them liked the work too! That’s how I started writing professionally! During college vacations, I worked as a full time content writer in KPO process…
I also taught English in various institutes during my college days and school days too. After completing my education degree, I worked as an English teacher and then as an English Trainer and continued writing for some clients …
Now-a- days, I am working as a freelance trainer, content writer, Editor, Proof Reader, for various clients such as web developers, educational organizations, Book publishers and the likes!
